How to increase low breastmilk supply.

A lot of new moms get the shock of their lives when they have their baby and their breastmilk supply is delayed or is not enough. This is not a foreign occurrence, it happens to lots of moms and the good news we want to share with you today is, you are not alone.

  1. Check your baby’s latch

Sometimes you might be having a low milk supply because you think your baby is putting in enough demand whereas she’s not. To get your baby to latch on correctly, 

  • Tickle your baby’s lips with your nipple. This will help your baby open their mouth wide.
  • Aim your nipple just above your baby’s top lip. Make sure your baby’s chin isn’t tucked into their chest.
  • Aim your baby’s lower lip away from the base of your nipple. Baby’s lips should be turned outward like a fish. Your baby should lead into the breast chin first and then latch onto your breast. Your baby’s tongue should be extended, and your breast should fill your baby’s mouth.

2. Check your breast anatomy

If your nipples are flat or inverted, you might need a little help to get your supply up. Try and throw in a few pumping sessions, you can also try and hand express.

3. Ensure you are nursing or pumping at least 10 times daily

Your body would only produce the amount of milk it thinks you need and this is determined by the amount of time you ask your body for milk. This is very simple, ensure you nurse or pump on EACH breast at least ten times daily. The more you are stimulating the breasts, the more milk you’ll get
